Now that the dust has settled on SOAC 2015 I wanted to thank everyone who participated – from the Organising Committee and Theme Leaders to all speakers and other attendees, as well as Renee and Jenna from Leishman Associates and to all of our sponsors. I believe the conference was a success and also that successful conferences are those that combine intellectual stimulation with the chance to hang out and have fun with old and new friends. I was particularly impressed at the dance floor moves of many renowned urban scholars and at those who are still building their reputations in both arenas.
The adaptability of everyone in the face of climate variability (OK, a predicted Queensland summer storm) on the evening of the conference dinner was commendable and on the morning after it was most interesting to learn more of the policy ambitions of both the Federal Minister for Cities and the Built Environment and the new Queensland Transport Minister.
We have virtually all of the presented papers in their final format and will make available the full conference proceedings early in the new year. As we announced at the conference, you can now access all of the previous SOAC proceedings via the APO website at:
We will also circulate as soon as possible some publishers’ special offers on books and journals that relate to the conference themes.
Finally, I trust that presentations you heard and conversations you had at SOAC this year will provoke you to make new contributions to Australian urban scholarship and to current urban policy debates. In the meantime, have a great break and see you in Adelaide for SOAC 2017, if not before.
Paul Burton, Griffith University & Chair of the SOAC 2015 Organising Committee.
